“And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord
Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels … when he shall come
to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe
(because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.”
II Thessalonians 1:7,10
The big day has come and
gone. Presents have been opened (and
some returned), the indoor trees are beginning to look bare as decorations
begin disappearing, and the glow of green and red lights around houses are
slowly fading away into obscure memories.
Christmas is over … but is it?
Christmas is a day that we have
set aside to observe a birth of a King.
Jesus, our King and Lord, was born in a lowly manger many, many years
ago; and He is coming back! Christmas
is not complete without the Second Coming of Christ. An incarnation without the coronation would be like east without
a west; an engagement without the marriage.
Everyone is so wrapped up in the
baby Jesus around Christmastime, that they forget He was born for a
reason. And that reason was to die; to
shed His blood for our sins. He took on
our sins so that we may take on His righteousness.
The Christmas story that we find
in our Bibles not only speaks of the Jesus who redeemed, but also about the
Jesus who reigned.
We need to remember that the
First Coming of Christ is inexorably linked with the Second Coming of
Christ. He is coming to sit upon the
throne of David and to rule the house of Jacob for all eternity.
The most glorious miracle in the
past was that Jesus came. The most
glorious miracle of the future is that this same Jesus is coming again.
As good as your Christmas was
this week, the best Christmas is still yet to come.
