A Child Is Born

It soon will be Christmas; a day that we have set aside in order to remember the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. Although this birth happened approximately 2000 years ago, Isaiah was writing about it much earlier.

About 700 years BC, Isaiah wrote about the coming Prince of Peace. He told about a child that will be born, and a son that would be given.

That child was Jesus, born of a virgin in a manger so long ago.

That son was Jesus, the only begotten Son of God, who was given to us as a sacrifice so that we might live.

The government will be upon His shoulders as He rules as King of kings and Lord of lords during the Millennium.

And He will be called by many names. Not necessarily literal names, but descriptions of His character.

  • Wonderful – Our Lord is wonderful. You cannot look upon Jesus and be bored. He will fill your heart and mind with amazement.
  • Counselor – Jesus guides our lives and helps with our problems.
  • The mighty God - Jesus is the God of all creation and glory, the LORD who reigns in heaven, the One worthy of our worship and praise.
  • The everlasting Father – Jesus is the author of all eternity; the Creator Himself.
  • The Prince of Peace – the One who makes peace between God and man.
The Bible states that “the Word was with God, and the Word was God … and the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us” (John 1:1, 14).

This is our Savior – God in the flesh. Almighty God stepped out of Heaven, away from the ivory palaces, and came into this world of woe.

This was the greatest event in human history!

This was the first Christmas, and God gave us the greatest gift of all; the gift of deity wrapped up in humanity.
